The Jka and Jkb antigens were reported in 1951 and 1953 respectively. Anti-Jka and anti-Jkb can both show dosage and are notorious for their evanescence: antibody titres that rise after stimulation but quickly drop, often to undetectable levels. Kidd system antibodies have been implicated in delayed and immediate Haemolytic Transfusion Reactions and Haemolytic Disease of the Newborn.

The reagents will cause indirect agglutination (clumping) of test red cells, that carry the corresponding Kidd antigen, in the antiglobulin phase of testing. No agglutination generally indicates the absence of the corresponding Kidd antigen.

Lorne Monoclonal Anti-Jkb blood grouping reagent contains human monoclonal IgM antibodies, diluted in a phosphate buffer containing sodium chloride and bovine albumin. The reagent is supplied at optimal dilution for use with all recommended techniques staed in the pack insert without the need for further dilution or addiotion.
